Tool Categories
We organize our browser-based utilities into logical categories to help you quickly find the exact tool you need for your document workflow. Whether you are managing security, converting formats, or editing structure, all our tools share the same foundational commitment to your privacy.
How to Choose the Right Category
If you are working strictly with the .pdf file extension and need to modify internal structure, metadata, or cryptographic security handlers, the PDF Tools category contains our specialized utilities for those tasks. These tools utilize a dedicated JavaScript parser tailored specifically for the complex cross-reference tables inherent to the PDF specification.
As we expand our platform, we will introduce new categories—such as Image Converters and Text Extractors—that rely on different underlying Web APIs, like the HTML5 Canvas API and WebAssembly (Wasm) ports of popular open-source rendering engines.
The Philosophy of Tool Categorization
As our suite of privacy-first utilities grows, maintaining an intuitive, organized platform becomes paramount. We categorize our tools not merely by what they do, but by the underlying technical mechanisms they employ. This approach ensures that users can easily locate complementary tools that integrate seamlessly into their workflows.
Security and Access Control
Our foundational category is built around document security. The tools within this domain are engineered to interact directly with the /Encrypt dictionary defined within the PDF specification. They handle the complex cryptographic operations required to parse RC4 and AES encrypted streams, as well as the logic necessary to strip owner-level permission flags. If your primary goal is regaining authorized access to restricted files, this category provides the necessary utilities.
Structural Modification (Coming Soon)
While security is our core focus, document management often requires altering the physical structure of the file itself. Future categories will house tools designed to manipulate the page tree. These utilities will allow users to merge multiple distinct documents into a single cohesive file, extract specific page ranges for targeted sharing, and rotate or delete individual pages. Because these tools rely on parsing and modifying the cross-reference tables (XREF) without altering the underlying data streams, they can be executed client-side with remarkable speed and precision.
Data Extraction and Conversion (Coming Soon)
The ultimate goal of many document workflows is transforming data from one static format to another. Our future conversion category will leverage advanced Web APIs, such as the HTML5 Canvas and WebAssembly ports of rendering engines, to process files entirely in the browser. Users will be able to extract high-resolution image assets embedded within PDFs, or convert entire pages into rasterized JPGs or PNGs. Like all our tools, these operations will be strictly client-side, eliminating the privacy risks associated with cloud-based conversion pipelines.
Navigation and Discovery
We encourage you to explore our categories to discover utilities you may not have realized were available without server-side processing. The boundaries of what is possible in the browser are constantly expanding, and our categorization structure will evolve alongside these technological advancements. Check back frequently as we launch new sections dedicated to metadata redaction, bulk processing, and automated document generation.
